2ndRadha Thiagarajan Memorial State level Open & Children Chess Tournament 2016
IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam of Kanchi won the 2ndRadha Thiagarajan Memorial State level Open chess tournament, organized by Golden Knight Chess Academy &Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.The 2nd day State Level Open and Category tournament attracted 337 entries was held on 13thand 14th of February in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.
The open category attracted 147 entries, mostly from southern districts. Top seeded IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam took the lead from the beginning, in the final round Bala drew with RohitRamanan of PSNA College and won the tournament with 7.5 points. Bala received the Radha Thiagarajan Memorial Rolling Trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5000/-. B SelvaMurugan and B S Girinath of Madurai finished 2nd and 3rd place with 7.0 Points and 6.5 points respectively.

Category level tournament for U10, U13 and U15 was held along with. S P K Arul Anandh of Coimbatore scored 7/8 in the U10 section, M Jayakumarof Madurai scored 6/7in the U13 section and V Sivanandha of Virudhunagar scored 6/6in the U15 section to win their respective category. Riya Shannon of Kanyakumari,S Srimathiof Sivakasi&Hafisha Begum of Madurai won the U10,13& 15 girls section respectively.
Prizes were distributed byFormer National U-17 Champion R Preethi. Other guests present on the dais were Dr.Abhai Kumar V, Principal, TCE,Mr.Vasudevan, Deen, B T Sethuraman, Secretary, MDCA&G K Raajesh, Placement Officer, TCE. Dr.Chandrasekar, Physical Director, TCE welcome the gathering and International Arbiter S Ganesh Babu, Secretary, GKCA delivered the vote of thanks.
