Entries Invited from Districts/Clubs/Academies to participate in the
National Team Chess Championships (Open & Women)
10 – 16 February 2023, Pollachi
Coimbatore District Chess Association and Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering, on behalf of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation are jointly organizing the National Team Chess Championships (Open & Women) at the college campus from 10th to 16th February 2023.
As per the latest regulations of AICF, each state can field a maximum of three teams each in the open and women sections. Tamil Nadu being the host, it can field one more entry and it is eligible to add fifth entry in case of odd number of entries. Hence TNSCA has to select five teams and another reserve team, if required.
A selection committee was constituted consisting mostly the office bearers of TNSCA, to define the procedure and modalities to select the teams. The committee wanted the selection of teams to be based on merit and transparent and has proposed the following suggestions, which have been accepted by TNSCA.
A and B teams for open and women:
The committee unanimously decided to select the five players for the A team from the state open championship 2022, according to merit, the procedure of which has been followed in the past.
It was resolved to field a team comprising GMs/IMs and WGMs and WIMs respectively. Grandmaster M Shyam Sundar will be in charge of the selection of the team, assisted by Prof. R. Anantharam. TNSCA will bear the expenses for both A and B teams.
C team for men
It was also resolved to field the winner of the TN State team championship (open) held at Madurai as the C team, subject to their willingness.
In recognition of their service by conducting nationals successively, the members were of the view to field a team from the host Coimbatore district in both open and women categories. It was unanimously accepted. It will be the D team for the open and C team for the women categories.
The committee members decided to select a team from the first three finishers of the world, Asian (including Asian Schools) and national age category championships of 2022. This will constitute the E team for men and D team for women. Applications have to be invited from them and the top five rated players have to be selected for both men and women. The E team will participate only in case of odd number of entries.
If any of the above slots are not filled up, the reserve team for open and “E” & reserve teams for women have to be selected by calling for entries from the districts/academies/clubs. The team having the best average rating (best four players) will form the reserve/E (women) team. In case there is no odd entry, the category top finishers will be the first reserve team in the open.
Hence, applications are invited as a team of five members from the district/clubs/academies for the reserve team for both open and women categories. There is no guarantee that the team will find a place in the championship, but there are more possibilities for their participation. Only Tamil Nadu players are eligible to participate.
The application shall include all the five names of the players and their rating as on December. Anyhow, their rating as on 1st January 2023 will be considered for the selection procedure. It is mandatory that only the players mentioned in the application have to play, in case the team is selected. Teams fielding any player other than those mentioned in the application will not be entitled to participate. If any club/academy fields a player from a different district, proper NOC must be obtained from the player’s parent district. Only applications recommended by the respective district chess associations will be eligible for the selection procedure.
The last date to receive the entries in the attached format is 12th January 2023. Such selected team will be considered as special entry and they have to bear their own expenses.
