Audi Ameya won the LITTLE ENGLAND 1st International Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament
The LITTLE ENGLAND 1st International Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament was organized by Viyugam Chess Academy (VCA) and Ananthi Chess Academy (ACA) held at Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur. The total prize fund of Rs.3,01,000 was split into 20 main prizes, 30 rating category prizes and 55 trophies for age category players.
The five days tournament was inaugurated by K Velmurugan, President, Hosur small and tiny industry association (HOSTIA), in the presence of Mr. Senthilvel, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. Vijayaraghavan, joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. Jayapala Chandady, Founder President, KDCA, Mr. Yuvachandran, Secretary, KDCA, Mr. Pragadesh, Tournament Director, Mr. Lokesh, Organizing Secretary and Mr. Ganesh Babu S, Chief Arbiter.
Two hundred and fifty-six players from 2 countries, 13 districts and 3 special units participated in this nine round swiss format tournament out of which 174 players were FIDE International rated. The seeding list was spearheaded by International Master Audi Ameya of Goa. FIDE Master Ayushh Ravikumar of Tamil Nadu, FIDE Master Sekar of Tamil Nadu, FIDE Master Senthil Maran of Tamil Nadu and Candidate Master Lakshmi Narayanan of Tamil Nadu were seeded from 2nd to 5th respectively. Two International Masters, Four FIDE Masters, One Women FIDE Master and one Candidate master participated in this event.
Top players were sailed smoothly till the third round. In round four Arul Anandh and Ashvin Venkat held drew with 2nd seeded FM Ayussh Ravikumar and 3rd seeded FM Sekar respectively. At the end of fifth round Four players IM Audi Ameya, IM Balasubramanian, FM Senthil Maran and CM Lakshmi Narayanan share the lead with five points. R M Subramanian who upsets seventh seeded N Surendran in the fifth round lost to FM Sekar in the sixth round and FM Vinoth kumar defeated second seeded FM Ayussh Ravikumar joined the lead with other leaders, while their game ended in a draw leaving all the six players with 5.5 points at the end of sixth round. IM Audi Ameya and FM Vinoth Kumar jointly lead the tournament by winning their seventh-round game against CM Lakshmi Narayanan and FM Senthil Maran respectively with 6.5 points, while the second board players FM Sekar and IM Balasubramanian signed a peace treaty.
Individual encounter between the leaders in the penultimate round IM Audi Ameya continued his winning spree against FM Vinoth Kumar to become a sole leader with 7.5 points. On the second spot IM Balasubramanian and Sa Kannan won the respective games against Tarun and Dhanush Ragav with 7.0 points. IM Audi Ameya maintained his spectacular form to outwit Sa Kannan to register his eighth victory and won the tournament with 8.5points and a cash award of Rs.51,000 plus trophy. FM Sekar finished second with the better tiebreak score over the other three players with 7.5 points. FM Vinoth Kumar, CM Lakshmi Narayanan and Abinandhan finished third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Mr. Ashok Ji, Kreeda Bharati Trust was the chief guest of the function and distributed the prizes for the winners. Other guests present on the dais were Mr. Vijayaraghavan, joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. Jayapala Chandady, Founder President, KDCA, Mr. Yuvachandran, Secretary, KDCA, Mr. Pragadesh, Tournament Director, Mr. Ganesh Babu, Chief Arbiter, Mr. Surendran, Secretary, VCA, Chennai and Mr. Sekar, Secretary, VCA, Tiruvallur. Mr. Lokesh, Organizing Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks.
