Sa Kannan of Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu wins the 15th of Chennai Open International Grandmasters Chess Tournament – 2024 for Sakthi Group Dr. N Mahalingam Trophy Category B (below 2000). This category B witnessed 289 players from four foreign countries such as Australia, USA, France and Sri Lanka.
Mr. Kannan won the tournament with a clear score of 9 points out of 10 round and carried home the winner trophy and cash prize of Rs.1 lakh. Followed by Mr. Sanjay Thiruvengadam of Tamil Nadu stood second with 8.5 points and three players tied for third spot but better tie breaks helped Mr. Sivan S Roshan of Tamil Nadu to complete the podium. Rs.10 lakhs was spread over 100 cash prizes and apart from main prizes, 10 cycles awarded to all category winners, 90 trophies were given for category prizes and all under 7 players were awarded with trophies.
