15th Chennai Open International Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2024
The 15th edition of the Chennai Open International Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2024 Category A (above 2000), organised by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Ramada Hotel, today – 02.01.2025. Both A and B category tournaments were inaugurated by Dr. M Manickam, Chairman of Sakthi Group of Companies and President of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association in the presence of Shri. D V Sundar, former Vice President of World Chess Federation, Shri. Manuel Aaron, India’s first International Master and nine times national champion and Shri. Syed Ali, General Manager, Ramada Hotel.
The tournament carrying a total prize money of forty lakhs rupees has attracted several grandmasters and international masters from twenty two countries. IM Aronyak Ghosh of railways is the top seed of the tournament, followed by grandmaster. Followed by Siddharth Jagdeesh of Singapore and Pa Iniyan of Tamil Nadu. A total of one hundred and seventy six players are participating in the ten rounds, eight days tournament. The prize money for the A category tournament is twenty lakhs rupees, with first and second prizes being four and three lakhs respectively.
In the B category tournament for below 2000, where a cash prize of ten lakhs rupees are offered, players from four countries take part and it is held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. R Anirudh and Sivan S Roshan of Chennai head the ratings of the players. Third seeded Sanjay S Pillai of Keral and fourth seeded former women state champion and sixty four year old veteran SR Radha of Tamil Nadu were held to draw by B Inbhan and Ashva Shanmugam of Tamil Nadu respectively.
