Muthaiah & Priyanka emerged as the TN Junior Champions
K Priyanka of Coimbatore and AL Muthaiah of Thiruvallur won the Tamil Nadu State Under 19 Girls and Junior championships respectively at Kamarajar Kalyana Mandapam, Rajapalayam. The 9 round Swiss format tournament held from 23rd to 27th July attracted players from 21 districts. V. Karthik of Vellore and Priyanka were the top seeds of the tournament.
Muthaiah scored 7.5 points, one point ahead of his nearest rival S. Prasannaa of Kanchipuram district and Hemanth Ram of Chennai. On the distaff side, Priyanka secured 7 points. R. DIvyalakshmi of Chennai and CR Asha finished second and third respectively, with 6.5 points each.
Sri. S. Aruna MA., BL., NIS. Sports & Youth Welfare Officer, VIrudhunagar district inaugurated the tournament. On the final day, Sri. A. Gopalsamy, former Vice President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association distributed the prizes.
