Tamil Nadu State Chess Coaches Examination – 2025 LEVEL – 1 (BEGINNER)
The Executive Committee of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association has decided to organize a Certificate Course for Chess Coaches Level – 1 (Beginners).
Tamil Nadu State Chess Association will be conducting a Examination for Chess Coaches – Level 1 (Beginners) at three centers / districts on 02/03/2025 as mentioned below
Chennai, Cuddalore & Erode
Eligibility:
- Candidates must have registered as players/Arbiter with Tamil Nadu State Chess Association. If not registered, please click the link to register : https://registration.tamilchess.com/new-register/
- Candidates who have completed 18 years of age as on 02.03.2025.
- Knowledge in the game of chess who can teach and coach the aspiring beginners.
- Knowledge in Basic FIDE laws of chess.
- Those who already have the national or international level certification for coaches need not apply.
Fees: Rs.2000/- per candidate will be fees for the above examination.
Strictly manual applications will not be entertained.

- Select the respective Examination Center from the dropdown menu.
- Enter your active TNSCA – ID and click fetch data. Your registration details will be displayed.
- Click “Proceed to Payment” to complete the registration.
Last Date:
Last date for submitting the online application will be on or before 5.00 PM 23/02/2025 (Sunday).
- Registration for the Examination would be limited on first cum first basis.
- After the recommendations from the concerned district chess association, the list of provisionally selected candidates will be uploaded in tamilchess.com website after the last date. (However the candidates should contact their respective district chess association for their recommendations).
Reporting & Registration:
Reporting Time & Date: 9.00 AM on 02-03-2025 (Sunday) at the venue.
Online Doubt Clearing Session:
An online doubt clearing session for the candidates will be conducted on 01.03.2025 (Saturday) between 10.00 AM to 01.00 PM. The details of the online doubt clearing session link, venue details and instructions will be sent separately to all the participants later. The examination will be held from 09.30 AM to 05.00 PM on 02.03.2025 (Sunday).
Examination pattern:
Morning Session
- Written examination (60%)
Afternoon Session
- Playing session (20%)
- Viva voce/seminar (20%).
Please note that those who score 80% and above will be awarded the Tamil Nadu State Chess Coach Certificate Level – 1 for Beginners by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association.
Questions will be framed from the following topics:
- Basic tactics (Pin, Knight Fork, Double Attack, Skewer, Double Check, Discovered Check, Discovered Attack, etc.,)
- Mating patterns
- Mate in One
- Mate in Two
- Mate with the Queen (K & Q vs K to be demonstrated)
- Mate with the Rook (K & R vs K to be demonstrated)
- Basic Pawn Endings
- General Opening ideas
- Movement of the pieces (including the castling, en passant, pawn promotion etc.)
- Basic FIDE laws of chess (touch piece rule, Illegal move, draw positions, etc.)
- Playing chess game with ability to write the game notations on the score sheet.
- Other topics related to coaching the beginner.
Lunch & Refreshment:
Free lunch and refreshments will be provided to all the participants on the day of the examination. One or two rooms (separately for men and women) will be arranged for the participants to refresh themselves on 02.03.2025 morning.
