Srihari L R won the V.S. Chess Academy’s 1st International FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament

463 players participated in the V.S. Chess Academy’s 1^st International FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament held on 26^th January 2020 at Bengal Association, Nungambakkam, Chennai. The event witnessed 2 IMs and 1 WIM. Mr. Ashwath R of Tamil Nadu was the top seed of the tournament. The tournament was conducted under Swiss system for 7 rounds with a time control of 20 minutes plus 5 seconds increment from move no.1. Tournament carried a total cash prize of the tournament is Rs.1,00,000/-

In the initial stages, there was no major upset to the top seed players.  In the 4^th round, fourth seed player IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam was defeated by 46^th seed Srikrishnan P. In the penultimate round, 12^th seed Srihari L R defeat the top seed player Ashwath R. In the final round clash for the title between 82^nd seed Deepak Raj R and 12^th seed Srihari L R favoured Srihari to lift the title with 7 points out of 7 rounds. The title winner took home a cash prize of Rs.12,500/- and a glittering trophy. 2^nd place was tied by five players with 6.5 points, but with the better buchholz system, Abinandhan R and Pranav V came 2^nd & 3^rd place respectively.

Chief Guest of the function, Shri Purushothaman and gave away the prizes to the winners.
