18th Adyar Times FIDE rated open, 2018
Six share lead
At the end of fifth round of the 18th Adyar FIDE rated open chess tournament as many as six players have taken up the joint lead with five points each. The leaders are Ram S Krishnan, Sham R, Pradeep Kumar R A, Mythiryen P, Hari Mahadevan NB and IM P.Saravana Krishnan. Seven others are sitting pretty on the second spot with 4.5 points each.
In a game involving French defense IM P.Saravan Krishnan outclassed R.V.Venkatakrishnan in 40 moves. Playing white the top seed used his rich experience in the king pawn opening to tame his opponent. The second seed of the tournament R A Pradde Kumar employed his pet Sicilian defense to net a winner against Vinay R. Jumani.
Two more rounds are to be fought in this prestigious annual event sponsored by Adyar Times and organized by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Bala Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar, Chennai.
