1st Talent Chess Academy Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament being organized by Talent Chess Academy supported by Mata Amirtananandamayi Math, Tamil Nadu and Sport India. The opening ceremony got underway at the Mata Amirtananandamayi Math & Kalyana Mandapam, Virugambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu on August 21, 2019 where BR Vinayamrita Chaitanya, Correspondent, Amirta Institutions, Chennai inaugurated the event by lightening auspicious Kuthuvillakku. Also present on the dais, Mr.S.Balaraman, I.A., Chief Arbiter of the Tournament, welcomed all participants.
Untitled Raagul VS won the 1st edition of Talent Chess Academy Open rating chess tournament by scoring 8.0/9 and finishing ahead of three other players who finished with the same score. Talent Chess Academy’s 1st International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament concluded with three players finishing at 8/9, however, fourth-seeded V S Raagul from Tamil Nadu, won the title with a better tie-break score and win the first prize of ₹1,00,000/- followed by International Master Sayantan Das of West Bengal finished second, followed by master Rajarishi Karthi of Tamil Nadu completed the podium with same score. Two weeks after winning Thalavaipuram Open Rating International Master Ramanathan Balasubramanian of Tamil Nadu finished fourth.
Total of ₹7,31,000/- was the prize fund and was distributed among 1115 prize winners.
Totally 374 players participated in this five days, with nine rounds Swiss league tournament embraced 4 – International Masters, 2 – FIDE Masters, 1 – Women FIDE Master and 1 – Candidate Master. Players from 14 states, 2 Union territories of India such as Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Harayana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Delhi, Special units such as Railways, BSNL and ICF and two foreign federations from USA and England.
In a colorful closing ceremony Dr. Amutha Balakrishnan, Chairman Amutha Educational Trust, Tamil Nadu along with Mr. Anand Anbazhagan, Director, Sport India, Mr. C.Natarajan, Secretary, Master Mind Chess Academy and Dr. G G Satheish, I A, and Mr. S. Balaraman I A, Chief Arbiter gave away the trophies and cash prizes.
