Master. N B. Hari Madhavan and Miss. M. Tejasvi both from Chennai won the 49th Tamil Nadu State Junior Open (Under-19) & 34th Tamil Nadu State Junior Girls (Under-19) FIDE rated Chess Championship respectively.
49th TN State Junior Open (Under 19) & 34th TN State Junior Girls (Under 19) FIDE Rated Chess Championships 2021 was organized by Salem District Chess Association at Mahendra College of Engineering, Mahendra Salem Campus, Chennai Main Road, Minnampalli, Salem-636106 from 20th to 24th December, 2021.
The Championship was inaugurated on 20th December 2021 at 11.00 AM by Mr. M.Senthilvel IA, Joint Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association in the Presence of Mr. Arun, Secretary, Salem District Chess Association; Mr. S.Senthilvelavan, Mr. K M Sampathkmar. President Secretary, Rotary Club Salem South, Dean, Mohanasundaram, Administrative officer Ponni of Mahendra College of Engineering were present on the dais.
Championship attracted 120 Players in the open section and 78 Players in the girls section, from 30 Districts of Tamil Nadu. Master. N B Hari Madhavan of Chennai and Ms. L. Jyothsna of Neyveli were Top Seeds respectively.
Arrangements were made by Salem District Chess Association as per the Tamilnadu Government guideline like sanitizers at the entrance of the playing hall and thermal checkup was done for all players before entering the hall. Face mask were provided to all players, parents, arbiters, officials.
Mahaendra College of Engineering, Minnampalli, Salem, provides wonderful playing hall with individual table & chairs to maintain social distance and also provides free accommodation.
Top four (4) finishers of each section will be selected and shall represent Tamil Nadu State in the forthcoming National Junior U-20 Open & Girls Chess Championship 2022 scheduled on January 2022 at New Delhi.
Hari Madhavan won the game easily against Shadurshan of Virudhunagar in final round and secured 8.5points out of 9 Rounds and lifted the winner trophy in the Open section. In the Girls Section Tejasvi drew the game with Poornasri of Chennai and secured 7.5 points out of 9 Rounds to become the champion.
Prize distribution function was held on 24th December 2021 at 3.00 PM, Rtn. Hitesh Rathore was the Chief Guest and Mr. Sivaranjan District Sports Officer was the Guest of Honour, they gave away the Prizes to the winners in the presence of Mr. Arun, Secretary, Salem District Chess Association; Mr. S.Senthilvelavan, Mr. K M Sampathkmar. President & Secretary, Rotary Club Salem South; Mr. P.Palaniappan, IA, Chief Arbiter of this Event.
