13th & 14th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournaments
Karthik Rajaa and Lokesh win laurels
Mr. Karthik Rajaa and Mr. N Lokesh of India scored 7 point each and won the 13th& 14th TN IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournaments respectively at Hotel Le Palace, Chennai. These tournament were inaugurated by Mr. Mahendran A, International Volleyball player on 16.01.2024. The 6 day event ended on a high note with both winning on demand. Karthik Rajaa game against IM Anton. Karthik beat Anton with the black pieces in 50 moves, when latter endgame for Bishop against Rook with Pawns was not enough to hold. 13th edition Runner up Manik Mikulas tried hard against Prasanna’s Lasker variation of Kings Indian defense, but the latter defended well to split the point in 48 moves.
Lokesh won against Buscara after tactical oversight by the French IM. Lokesh invaded with backrank of white pieces with major pieces and was about to win a piece when Buscara decided to throw the towel in 39 moves. The prize distribution function was graced by Padma Shri. V Baskaran, GOLD Medalist, 1980 Moscow Olympics, Shri.
