
The top seed, P Iniyan from Erode, Tamilnadu lived upto his reputation and comfortably clinched the title in the National Junior(Under-15) Chess Championship held at Jammu. Iniyan scored 9 points out of a possible 11 by winning seven games and drawing four games to finish clear first. FIDE Masters Mithraba Guha(West Bengal), K S Raghunandan(Karnataka) and Candidate Master Nitish Belurkar(Goa) finished behind the winner with 8.5 points.
In the Girls section, two Taminadu players viz., R Vaishali, who is the current National Junior Girls’ Champion and K Priyanka tied for the first place with 8.5 points out of a possible 11, but finshed second and third respectively. The Girls’ event was won by Aakanksha Hagawane of Maharashtra also with 8.5 points, but with a superior tie-break.
The event was organized very smoothly at Jalsa Retreat, Jammu by Jammu District Chess Association from September 21 to 29, 2015.
