49th Tamil Nadu State Junior Open (Under-19) & 34th Tamil Nadu State Junior Girls (Under-19) FIDE Rated Chess Championships were Organized by Salem District Chess Association has been inaugurated on 20th December 2021 at Mahendra College of Engineering, Mahendra Salem Campus, Chennai Main Road, Minnampalli, Salem. Championships attracted 120 players in the Open section and 78 players in the Girls section from 30 districts across of Tamil Nadu. Master N.B Harimadhavan of Chennai in Open section and miss L Jyothsna of Cuddalore in girls were the top seeds respectively.

Rtn. Mr. S Senthilvelavan, President Rotary Club Salem South welcomed the gathering in the presence of Mr. Arun, Secretary, Salem District Chess Association. Mr. M.Senthilvel, Joint Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the event in the presence of Dr. Mohanasundarm, Dean, Mahendra College of Engineering, Mr. Ponni, Administrative Officer, Mahendra College of Engineering. Other guests present on the dais were Mr.P Palaniappan, International Arbiter, Chief Arbiter of the Championships. Rtn. Mr. K.M.Sampathkumar, Secretary, Rotary Club Salem South.
Top four (4) finishers of each section will be selected and shall represent Tamil Nadu State in the forthcoming National Junior U-20 Open & Girls Chess Championship 2022 scheduled on January 2022 at New Delhi.

Playing hall
Arrangements were made by Salem District Chess Association as per the Tamilnadu Government guideline like sanitizers at the entrance of the playing hall and thermal checkup was done for all players before they enter the hall. Face mask were provided to all players, parents, arbiters, officials.
