18^th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournaments

The18^thTamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament organised by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, Coimbatore District Chess Association and Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering & Technology, Pollachi will be held from 13.02.2024 to 18.02.2024 at Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Hall, in MCET Campus, Pollachi, Master Aakash of Tamil Nadu upsets Buscara Sevan of France.  Aakash gained the advantage in the 39^th move and Buscara resigned at the 68^th Move.

Five International Masters – IM Buscara, Sevan & IM Touzane, Olivier both from France, IM Gochelashvili, David of Russia, IM Sitnikov Anton of Ukraine and IM Shyaam Nikhil P from India along with WIM Bommini Mounika Akshaya from India are participating in this tournament, besides FM Wagh Suyogh of Mumbai, Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy of Uttar Pradesh and Aakash G of Tamil Nadu will be participating in this tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. M. Manickam, President Tamil Nadu State Chess Association & Chairman, Sakthi Group of Companies, Coimbatore, Guests of Honour was Mr. C. Ramasamy, Secretary, NIA, Pollachi.  Mr. Vijayaragavan, Vice President TNSCA, Mr. B Murugavel, Vice President, TNSCA, Mr. P. Stephen Balasamy, Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. Dhanasekar, Secretary, Coimbatore District Chess Association were present at the inauguration other guests present on the dias were Dr. M. Ashok, Principal, Nachimuthu Polytechnic, Physical Directors, Dr. Devarajan, Dr. Jose, Dr. Nachimuthu and Public Relation Officer S. Nagarajan.

In the Presidential address Dr. Manickam recalled the activities of the past 17 IM Norm events and also mentioned that so far our players achieved 8 IM Norms from those events.

1. IM P. Shyaamnikhil (India) 1 beat IM Sitnikov Anton (Ukraine) 0, 2. IM Gochelasvili David (Russia) 0.5 drew with Touzane Oliver (France) 0.5, 3. IM J. Sai Agni Jeevitesh (India) 1 beat FM Wagh Suyog (India) 0, 4. Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (India) 1 beat WIM Bommini Mounika Akshaya (India) 0, 5.  Aakash (India) beat IM Buscara Sevan (France) 0.
