IM Dismany of Cuba wins 38th IM Norm Tournament
Sakthi Group 38th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament – Coimbatore
International Master Otero Acosta Dismany of Cuba emerged as the straight champion of the Sakthi Group 38th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament – Coimbatore which got concluded on 06.12.2025 at Hotel Alankar Grande, Coimbatore. The champion targeted 6.5 points from nine rounds and was richer by Rupees Forty Five Thousand. The only unbeaten player of the event GM Podelchenko Evengiy secured the first runner up spot with 6 points after relegating Ashwin Sairam to the second runner up spot on account of his better S.B. tie break score. The players received Rs. 27,000/ and Rs.18,000/- each. Dr. S. GM Podolchenko Evgeniy (Belarus) handled sharp variation in his favourite Dutch defense and obtained two pieces for white’s rook. In the ensuing ending when Evgeniy was about to promote his C pawn to Queen on his 47th move, IM Claverie Raul (Argentina) stopped the clock indicating his resignation.
In a reversed Sicilian game involving Chennai Collegian FM Ashwin Sairam and IM Oblitas Carlomango (Peru) former produced lot of fire work over the board throughout the game. When Ashwin was about to win a knight by a simple pin Oblitas playing white resigned in vain on his 32nd move.
