The Velammal – AICF International Women Grandmaster Round Robin Chess Tournament 2024 organised by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association was inaugurated today – 18.03.2024 at Hotel Chennai Le Palace, Porur by Hon’ble Mrs Justice N. Mala, High Court, Madras in the presence of Dr. M Manickam, Chairman Sakthi group of industries & President, TNSCA, Shri. D V Sundar, former, Vice President, FIDE, Shri. Manuel Aaron, Arjuna Awardee and India’s first International Master and Women Grandmaster Aarthi Ramaswamy, former World Under 18 champion.
5 foreign players – 2 players from Mongila, one player each from Italy, France and Colombia will face against 7 Indian players out of which 3 players are from Tamil Nadu. Total cash prize will be Rs.10 lakhs.
