The 29th Tamil Nadu State FIDE Rated Under – 13 Open and Girls Chess Championship – 2016 for Dolphin Trophies was held at The Frontline Academy Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Peruntholuvu Road, Tirupur – 641665 from 26th to 30th May 2016 organized by Tirupur District Chess Association and Frontline Chess Academy Tirupur on behalf of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. S. Manigandasamy, Vice President, TNSCA. The backbone of this tournament was Mr. R. Rajendran, Secretary, Tirupur District Chess Association. He is the youngest among the District Secretaries in Tamil Nadu. He is supported by Mr. V.P. Manoharan, Joint Secretary, TDCA. The guests present were Mr. S.Sivasamy, Correspondent of Frontline Academy Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Mr. V. Vijayaraghavan IA, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. V.S. Sriman IA, Chief Arbiter and Dr. G.G. Sathiesh FA, Deputy Chief Arbiter.
The event has attracted a total of 371 players of which 251 and 120 players participating in Open and Girls category respectively. In Open section, out of 251 players, 166 are rated players with the top seed being Hari Madhavan of Chennai followed by Raahul VS and Harshavardhan GB both from chennai. Harshavardhan GB was the former Tamil Nadu State Under 11Open Champion as well as, he is a bronze medallist in Asian Youth Championship 2015. Current TN State Under 11 Open Champion Sri Hari also participated in this event. Notable point is Prajeettha LR, a 8 years old girl participated in the Open section. Out of 120 players in Girls section, 57 where rated headed by WFM Lakshmi.C of chenaai. Current TN State Under 9 Girls champion Savitha Shri and TN State Under 11 Girls champion Meenatchi Rajam also took part in this event.

In Open section, Harshavardhan GB of Chennai emerged as the champion of 29th Tamilnadu State FIDE Rated Under – 13 Open Chess Championship – 2016. He remained undefeated scoring 8 point out of 9 rounds.
In Girls section, MK Poorna Sri of Chennai clinched Dolphin Trophy of 29th Tamilnadu State FIDE Rated Under – 13 Girls Chess Championship – 2016. She remained undefeated scoring 8 point out of 9 rounds. She defeated higher seeded player Jyothsna L in the 7th round and drew with WFM Lakshmi C in the ultimate round to emerge as champion.
