Triple Woman International Master Norm holder Harini S of Chennai, scoring 8/9, emerged the Champion on superior tie-break, in the CA Honda 46th Tamil Nadu State Women Chess Championship 2018 ran from 2nd to 6th January, 2018 at Rasammal Tirumana Mandapam, Tiruvarur.
Harini S (Chennai) and Saranya Y (Thiruvallur) tallied 8.0 points after nine rounds, both remaining undefeated. Saranya took the early lead, racing to 5/5. But Harini caught up, when Saranya made two successive draws. In the final placing Harini & Saranya took the top two spots, followed by Jyothsna L of NLC at 7.5 points.
Also, the nine round Swiss tournament saw 98 players in action, including a Woman FIDE Master. Further, 68 FIDE Rated players in action proved it to be one of the strongest TN State Women Chess Championships.
The TN State Women Chess Championship was organised by Tiruvarur District Chess Association for the 8th time in the last decade. In a grand prize function Shri R Selva Ganapathy, President Tiruvarur District Table Tennis Association, presided over and the prizes were distributed by Shri J Kanagarajan, President, Aanmeegam Aanandham, Tiruvarur. Present in the dais were Shir R Balan, Vice President, Tiruvarur District Chess Association, Shri V R N Panneer Selvam, President, Tiruvaru District Basket Ball Association, Shri S P Akilan, Secretary, Nagapattinam District Chess Association. Shri R K Bala Gunasekaran, Secretary, Tiruvarur District Chess Association delivered the vote of thanks.
