22nd Adyar Times FIDE rated Chess Tournament
School boy Hari Ganesh defends title
Defending champion master T Hari Ganesh, a eleventh standard student of Velammal Vidhyasharam, Guduvancherry lifted the 22nd Adyar Times trophy when he remained unbeaten to score 7.5 points from possible 8 rounds. He struck seven consecutive wins and conceded a draw in the eighth and the final round to emerge as the straight champion. The champion carried home a winner’s purse of Rs. 35,000/-. AFM Vakeesh with 7 points was adjudged as the runner up in a four-way tie. The third place was garnered by Ajeesh of Tamil Nadu. These four days event was organized by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association from August 23 to 26 at the Air-Conditioned University Hall, Jeppiaar University.
In a colourful closing ceremony Smt. B. Vijayalakshmi, Manager, Business Development, Adyar Times felicitated the winners and gave away the prizes. Other dignitaries present in the function were Dr. Baskaran, Vice Chancelor, Jeppiaar University, Thiru. P Stephen Balasamy, General Secretary, TNSCA, Thiru. R Srinivasan, Treasurer, TNSCA, Thiru. S Paul Arokia Raj, the coordinator and the Chief Arbiter of the tournament.
