Golden Knights Chess Academy team “A” wins 28th Tamil Nadu State Team FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2022

28th Tamil Nadu State Team FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2022 was organized by Golden Knights Chess Academy affiliated to Madurai district chess association at Arunachalam Kamalambal Mahal, KamarajarSalai, Madurai from 24/04/2022 to 27/04/2022.

The tournament was inaugurated by Prof. R. Anantharam, IA, Vice President, TNSCA. The other dignitaries present on the dais were
Mr. V. Vijayaraghavan, IA, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. Balaraman, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. BT. Sethuraman, IA, Secretary, Madurai District Chess Association, Mr. G. Sabapathy, President, GKCA, Mr. S. Ganesh Babu, Secretary, GKCA, Mr. P. Pragadesh, Secretary, Ananthi Chess Academy,
Dr. G.G. Sathiesh, IA, Chief Arbiter and Mr. P. Uma Maheswaran, FA, Deputy Chief Arbiter.

A total of 59 Teams with 254 players from all over Tamil Nadu participated in the tournament. Out of 254 players, 153 were International FIDE Rated players including IM Avinash Ramesh Rated 2369, IM Manish Anto Cristiano F Rated 2129 and 3 Candidate Masters (CM). Top Seed team was Ananthi Chess Academy comprising of Barath Kalyan M (2259), Lokesh N. (2251), Prasannaa.S (2154), Selvamurugan B (1954), Pragadesh P (1341) with rating average of 2155.

28th Tamil Nadu State Team FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2022 carried a Total Prize Pool of Rs.50,000/- and the winner was awarded with cash prize of Rs.10,000/-.

Five Board Prizes worth Rs. 6,500/- were given to the best performers on the respective boards for their teams. Three prizes each in under 8, 11 & 14 categories (Boys & Girls Separately) including Madurai players and three prizes each in under 8, 11 & 14 Categories (Boys & Girls Separately) only for Madurai players were awarded for the players.

The first round was smooth sailing for the top seeds. In round 2, Table 2 saw Karuppasamy C of “Ananthi Chess Academy C” drew with CM Lakshmi Narayanan M V of “Golden Knights Chess Academy A” and on Table 3, Jai Kamalesh S of “Tirunelveli DCDA” drew with Kabhilan S of “Master Mind Chess Academy”. In round 3, there was big upset, International Master Manish Anto Cristiano lost to Aakash G of Coimbatore Chess Centre. In round 4, Lokesh N of Ananthi Chess Academy A signed peace with Jai Sankar Subramanian of Hatsun Chess Academy A on Table 1 – Board 1. Round 5 saw the much awaited “Clash of the Titans” in Table 1, the top two seeds “Ananthi Chess Academy A” of Madurai and on a hat-trick Tamil Nadu State Team Champions “Golden Knights Chess Academy A” of Madurai. In Board 1, RM Subramanian 1870 drew with Former Tamil Nadu State Rapid Champion N Lokesh 2251. Board 2,Candidate Master Lakshmi Narayanan M V 2217 lost to S Prasanna 2154. Board 3, Former Tamil Nadu State (U25) Champion M Dusthageer Ibrahim 2133 beat Barath Kalyan 2259. Board 4, Former Hat-trick Tamil Nadu State (Under 17) Champion S S Manigandan 2145 beat Selvamurugan 1954. Table 2 match between Velammal Nexus and Bloom Chess Academy A ended in 2-2 draw. In Round 6, Golden Knights Chess Academy A of Madurai kept the lead by defeating the Bloom Chess Academy A with a margin of 3.5-0.5. In the round 7, tournament leader Golden Knights Chess Academy A beat Coimbatore Chess Centre with a score of 4-0 to clinch the Champions title along with the Cash award of Rs. 10,000/- followed by Velammal Nexus crushing the top Seed Ananthi Chess Academy A with a score of 3-1 to become the runner up of this tournament and received Rs. 8,000 as cash prize.

The tournament report was presented by Dr.G.G. Sathiesh IA, Chief Arbiter. The dignitaries present on the dais were Mr. P Pragadesh, Secretary, Ananthi Chess Academy, Mr. Muthu Bala Gowtham, NDR Vaigai Sports Club, Mr. Manoj Kumar, Udhayan Kiruba Pets and Mushrooms, Axiom S Abdul Nazar, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. S Balaraman IA, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Mr. Hariharan, Quick Mart, Mr. G Sabapathy, President, Golden Knights Chess Academy, Mr. V Vijaraghavan, IA, Joint Secretary, TNSCA.
The prize winners were honoured with Cash prizes and trophies by the dignitaries.
