Gireman Ja of Coimbatore won the Sakthi Group 36th TN IM Norm Tournament
Gireman Ja of Coimbatore won the Sakthi Group 36th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament – Coimbatore, organized by Coimbatore District Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande, Coimbatore. He scored seven points, sufficient to achieve his maiden IM norm also. Grandmaster Evgeniy Podolchenko of Belarus who drew with Gireman scored 6.5 points, to finish runner up.
Vivaan Vishal Shah of Gujarat defeated IM Otero Acosta Diasmany of Cuba to secure the third place. Gireman received 500 USD.
National champion and grandmaster P Iniyan of Erode was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the honorable presence of Dr. M. Manickam, President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and Chairman, Sakthi Group of Industries, Coimbatore and Thiru. R Rajesh, Chairman, Arbiters’ Commission, All India Chess Federation.
