FM Pranav wins 34th IM Norm Tournament
Sakthi Group 34th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament – Chennai
FM Pranav K P of Chennai won the Sakthi Group 34th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament – Chennai organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Le Palace, Porur, Chennai held from 29.10.2025 to 04.11.2025. He and Apoorv Kamble of Karnataka scored 6.5 points each and Pranav pipped Apoorv to win the title, based on the tiebreak score. It is remarkable that both achieved IM norms in the tournament. While Apoorv has completed all the formalities and set to become the international master, it is the maiden norm for the Tamil Nadu boy FIDE Master Pranav.
In the Guioco Piano opening Dinesh Rajan erred in the middle game, handing over the advantage to Pranav. The latter made us of the opportunity to win the game and the title. Apoorv drew his final round game with IM Diasmany of Cuba.
Shri G. Shyam Sundar, former Under 19 World Cup cricketer distributed the prizes to the winner in the presence of Shri D.V. Sundar, former Vice President, World Chess Federation and Shri B Murugavel, Vice President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, Shri. Stephen Balasamy P, General Secretary, TNSCA.
