FIDE Master Md Imran wins 29th IM Norm
29th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament
FIDE Master Md Imran from Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, has emerged as the champion of 29th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament concluding the event with an impressive score of six and a half points after the ninth round. The tournament, hosted by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, at the Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore.
Despite his victory, Imran fell short of achieving his second IM norm, as his final round ended in a draw against Nandish of Coimbatore. The tournament proved to be highly competitive, with GM Evgeniy Podolchenko from Belarus securing second place with six points, thanks to a superior tiebreak score. IM Semetei Tologon Tegin from Kyrgyzstan finished in third place, also with six points.
In the prize distribution ceremony Dr. M Manickam, President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, presented awards to the top performers in presence of three Vice Presidents of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, Mr. R. Anantharam, Mr. M Ephrame and Mr. V Vijayaragavan. Mr. Dhanasekar, Secretary of the Coimbatore District Chess Association, welcomed the gathering, while Mr. V Vijayaragavan delivered the vote of thanks.
