3rd Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament

The third Tamil Nadu IM norm closed circuit chess tournament organised by Madurai District Chess Circle at Poppys Hotel, Madurai from 30th October, 2023 to 4th November, 2023.
The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Dinesh Nayak, Deputy Zonal Manager of Indian Bank (Former Olympian, Hockey), in the presence of Shri. D V Sundar (former vice president of the World Chess Federation), Shri. P Stephen Balasamy, Tournament Director (General Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association), Shri. R Srinivasan (Treasurer of TNSCA), and Mr. P. Pragadesh, Joint Secretary of TNSCA, Shri Vijayaraghavan V, Vice President of TNSCA, Shri. Uma Maheswaran, Secretary, Madurai District Chess Circle.
The tournament featured several strong chess players, GM Ziatdinov Raset (2081) from United States of America, IM Abdyzhapar Asylbek (2314) from Kyrgyzstan, IM Gochelashvili David (2277) from Russia, WFM Allahverdiyeva Ayan (2198) from Azerbaijan, IM Murugan Krishnamoorthy (2355), FM Harsh Suresh (2336), FM Sekar B (2333), FM Senthil Maran K (2298), WIM Sharma Isha (2191) and CM Adireddy Arjun (2155) all from India
CM Adireddy Arjun, the 52nd National Junior (Under-19) Open Chess Champion, had an exceptional performance, scoring 8.5 out of 9 rounds. He only drew one game with Harsh Suresh. Since he scored a full point over the required 7 points with a rating average of 2265, he earned the IM Norm certificate for a 10 round Norm in this event
2nd Runner up of MPL 32nd National Under 17 Open Championship 2022, master Harsh Suresh performed admirably, winning games against six players and drawing with IM Murugan Krishnamoorthy, CM Adireddy Arjun, and IM Gochelashvili David. He finished runner-up in the tournament with 7.5 points out of 9 rounds, which was enough to earn him an IM Norm certificate
These outstanding performances made the tournament an exciting and competitive event in the world of chess, with players achieving their International Master Norms.
Mr. K Kathirvel, proprietor of Mapillai Vinayagar Soda Factory distributed the prizes in the presence of Mr. P Pragadesh, Joint secretary of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, Mr. P Uma Maheswaran, Secretary, Madurai District Chess Circle and Mr. B Dhenagaran, Secretary, Trichy District Chess Association.
