Aarav A and Lakshana Subramanian wins 33rd Tamil Nadu State U-9 Open & Girls Chess Championship 2020 respectively

33rd Tamil Nadu State U-9 Open & Girls Chess Championship 2020

33rd Tamil Nadu State U-9 Open & Girls Chess Championship 2020 was organized by Vivekananda Chess Academy, Dharmapuri from 1st to 5th February 2020 at Sri Vijay Vidyalaya Matric Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. The event was inaugurated by lightening of Kuthuvilakku by the dignitaries present on the dais. The dignitaries present on the dais were Dr. D.N.C. Manivannan, Chairman, Vijaya Group of Institutions, Dr. G. Rajesh M.S, Chief Consultant, Interventional Endoscopist and Advanced Laproscopic Surgeon, Dharmapuri, Dr. R. Elango, Vice President, Vivekananda Chess Academy, Mr. V. Senthil Kumar, Secretary, Dharmapuri District Chess Association,  Mr. P. Rajasekaran, Jt. Secy., DDCA and Dr. G.G. Sathiesh, International Arbiter, Chief Arbiter of the Event.Dr. D.N.C. Manivannan, Chairman, Vijaya Group of Institutions, Dharmapuri inaugurated the tournament by making the first move on the Top boards in the both the categories.

The event attracted a total of 255 players out of which 167 participated in Under 9 Open Championship and 88 participated in Under 9 Girls Championship. In the Open Championship, Adharsh K of Chennai with FIDE rating of 1324 was the top seed. The title winner of this Championship was Aarav A of Chennai aged 7 years.  He scored 8 points out of 9 rounds and was tied for the top spot with Paresh of Salem with the same points but better tie break score credited him the Champion’s title. He lost only in the 4th round but thereafter there was no player to stop as he cleanly swept the remaining rounds. The top 3 prize winners are 1) Aarav A of Chennai, 2) Paresh S of Salem and 3) Mukesh N J of Trichy.

In the Under 9 Girls Championship, Lakshana Subramanian of Sivagangai with FIDE rating of 1319 proved her worth as the top seed to emerge as title winner of this Championship. She scored 8 points out of 9 rounds and was tied for the top spot with Tanusri S of Kanchipuram with the same points but direct encounter tie break fetched the Champion’s title. The top seed had a hurdle in the form of Srinithi S of Salem with whom she lost in the 8th round but the Champion proved her grit to defeat Pavithra N of Kanyakumari in the final round to clinch the title. The top 3 prize winners are 1) Lakshana Subramanian of Sivagangai 2) Tanusri S of Kanchipuram and 3) Deekshaa S of Namakkal.

The Chief Guest of the Prize Distribution function was  Ms. Koushalya, Senior Principal. The other dignitaries present on the dais were Mr. K. Duraisamy, Honorary President, Dharmapuri District Chess Association (DDCA), Mr. G. Sankar, Assistant Professor, Don Bosco College,

Anandh Prakash, Chairman, Stanley Educational Institutions, Pappireddipatti, Dr. Anand, President, Indian Chess Academy, Mr. P. Rajasekaran, Jt. Secy., DDCA Dr. Sathiesh GG, International Arbiter along with Deputy Chief Arbiter FA Srivari, Naga Prasad S.
