Master V.S. Rathanvel of Coimbatore & Miss L. Jyothsna of NLC are the champions of TN State Junior Open & Girls Chess Championship

47th Tamil Nadu State Junior (Open) FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2018 & 32nd Tamil Nadu State Junior (Girls) FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2018

Tamil Nadu State Junior (Open & Girls) FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2018 was organized here at PSNA College of Engineering and Technology, Kothandaraman, Dindigul. The Championships was inaugurated by Rtn., Major Donor. R.S.K. Raguraam, Pro-chairman PSNA CET in the presence of Mr. Stephen Balasamy, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, Rtn., Major Donor. G. Sundararajan, President, Dindigul District Chess Association, Dr.N. Mahendran, Principal, PSNA CET, Mr. S. Soundararajan, District Sports and Youth welfare officer, Rtn. PP.P. Ramalingam, Vice President, DGL DCA, Mr. Axiom S Abdul Nazer, Secretary, DGL DCA, Mr. J. Vijay, Physical Director, PSNA CET and International Arbiter R.K. Balagunashekaran, Chief Arbiter of the event.

Championship attracted 151 players in open section and 73 players in girls sections from all over Tamil Nadu. Master V.S. Rathanvel from Coimbatore and Miss L. Jyothsna from NLC where the top seeds of open and girls events respectively. Top four finishers shall represert Tamil Nadu in the National Junior Open & Girls Chess Championships respectively.

On the 3rd round master S. Rohit Vassan from Vellore surprised the 2nd seed V.S. Raahul on board 2 and on board 4, master Avinash Ramesh from Chennai held a draw against his district mate Master Manu David Suthandram. On round 5, Rathanvel took the lead of the championship till round 7 where his full point run was stopped by Manu David Suthandram of Chennai by a draw. On the final round Rathanvel managed to make a full point against V.S. Raahul. Master Rathanvel from Coimbatore with a score of 8/9, lifted the 47th Tamil Nadu State Junior Open trophy.      

In girls section Miss L. Jyothsna from NLC and I Harivardhini from Tiruvallur where leading the championship till round 4. From round 6, Harivardhini took the lead after a draw with her fellow mate Jyothsna on round 5. In round 8 harivardhini lost her game with Dhivyabharathi Masanam from Chennai which made Jyothsna joint lead with Dhivyabharathi. In the final round all top three boards’ saddled with a draw. Miss Jyothsna and Dhivyabharathi tied for first with 7/9, but through direct encounter tie-break Jyothsna lifted the girls’ trophy of 32nd Tamil Nadu State Junior Girls Chess Championship. Apart from 10 main prizes in each event Dindigul DCA also give 5 category prize in U12 & U15 Open & girls respectively.

The prizes are distributed by the Chief guest Mr. S. Balakumar, DSP Dindigul Town in the presence of Dr. N.Mahendran, Principal, PSNA CET, Mr. S.Soundararajan, District Sports and youth welfare officer, Rtn. G. Sundararajan, President, DDCA, Rtn. PP.P.Ramalingam, Vice-President, DGL DCA, Mr. Axiom S Abdul Nazer, Secretary, DGL DCA, Mr. Vijay, Physical Director, PSNA CET and Mr. R.K. Balagunashekaran, Chief Arbiter of the Championship.
