The 1st State Level Children’s Chess tournament organized by Chanakya Chess Academy was conducted on 2nd & 3rd September, 2017 at Kamaraj Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chidambaram. Around 405 players from 18 Districts (Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapatinam, Cuddalore, Trichy, Ariyalur, Kanyakumari, Chennai, Vellore,Coimbatore, Pudukottai, Erode & Salem) of Tamil Nadu participated.
The tournament was conducted under 4 categories. Under-09 category, boys section master Jaidambareesh N R of Kaniyakumari scored 7.5 points out of 8 Rounds and in Girls section Indira Priyadharshini S of Sivagangai was unbeaten and scored 6 points out of 6 Rounds and received their Titles. Under-11 boys section Sri Hari S of Trichy scored 7 points out of 8 Rounds and in Girls section Niranjana P R of Cuddalore scored 6 points out of 6 Rounds both are sole lead in their Categories and received their title. Under-13 boys section Pragatheesh Muthukumaran of Nagapattinam scored 7 points out of 8 Rounds and in Girls section Femil Chelladurai of Kaniyakumari got 5.5 points out of 6 Rounds both are sole lead in their Categories and received their title.
Under-16 boys section Kanishk S K of Coimbatore scored 7.5 points out of 8 Rounds and in Girls section Thrisha A of Tiruvanamalai got 5 points out of 6 Rounds both are sole lead in their Categories and received their title.
15 Prizes for Boys & 15 Prizes for Girls were given to each category and distributed in the Prize distribution function. Members present in the dias was the Chief Guest Mr. Pugalenthi Sub-Inspector Chidambaram – Mr. R.S.Ravichandran, AG, Mr. Murugesan President, Rotary Club Holy Town Chidambaram, Tournament Director Mr. R.Vinodh Secretary Chanakya Chess Academy, Mr. Shankar Joint Secretary Cuddalore District Chess Association, and Tournament Chief Arbiter Mr. R.K.Balagunashekaran IA, were Present and give away the prizes to the winners.
