Kyrgyzstan international master Asylbek Abdyzhapar won the 8th TN IM norm closed circuit chess tournament, organized by Erode Chess Circle at Sri Vasavi College, Erode today. He and GM Alexei Fedorov of Belarus scored 6.5 points each, but the tiebreak favouredAsylbek to be the champion. Of the eight tournaments, this is his second title, as he has won the 2nd edition at Pollachi earlier.
Grandmaster Evgeniy Podolchenko of Belarus and S Prasanna of Chennai scored 5.5 points and were placed third and fourth respectively.
Sri. S. Nagarathinam, Mayor, Erode City Municipal Corporation was the chief guest and distributed the august presence of Sri. N. Sadasivam, secretary Sri Vasavi College, Sri C. Revant Kumar Chairman, Erode Spice Round Table, Sri C. Ravichandran, president Erode District Chess Circle and Dr. M. Thamarakannan, principal, Sri Vasavi College.
