M.KUNAL OF TRICHY CLINCHED THE TAMIL NADU STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE – 2016
64thTamil Nadu State Chess Championship 2016 was organized by Coimbatore District Chess Association on behalf of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association from 06.05.2016 to 10.05.2016 at Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School, Manickampalayam, Karuvalur Road, Kovilpalayam, Coimbatore – 641 107. Tournament was inaugurated by Shri. R. Palanisamy, Chairman, Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School. Dr. D. Dhanapal, Correspondent, Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School was the Guest of Honour. The other guests present on the dais were Mr. Murugiah, Principal, Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School, Mr. B. Sakthi Prabhakar IA, Chief Arbiter of this tournament from Chennai, Mr. V.Vijayaraghavan IA, Secretary, and Mr. V. Vijayakumar, Vice President, Coimbatore District Chess Association.
83 players participated in this Championship, out of which 73 players were rated. Nearly 50 percent of players were from Chennai and Coimbatore.
Important results
Mr. Kunal M. of Trichy emerged as champion and scored 7 points out of 9 rounds, he tied with Prasannaa S of Kanchipuram, IM RamnathBhuvanesh R of Chennai. Based on tie-break Kunal emerged champion.

The tournament report was presented by Mr. B. Sakthi Prabhakar IA, Chief Arbiter from Chennai. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. V.Vijayaraghavan IA, Secretary¸ CDCA. Mr. Murugiah, Principal, Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School, Mr. Dhanapal, Correspondent, Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School, Mr. SenthilChinnasamy, MD, Gnanambigai Mills, Coimbatore and Shri. R. Palanisamy, Chairman, Kovai Vidyashram CBSE School were present during the prize distribution function.
Coimbatore DCA arranged accommodation for all the players and parents. School Management arranged concessional Lunch/Dinner. Two buses were arranged for picking and dropping players from venue. They allowed the parents and players to read the Library books.
