Vaisnav of Thiagarajar College of Engineering won the 4th Radha Thiagarajan Memorial State level Open chess tournament, organized by Thiagarajar College of Engineering & Golden Knight Chess Academy, Madurai. The 2 day State Level Open and Category tournament attracted 350 entries from 25 districts was held on 17th and 18th of February in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.
The open category attracted 94 entries. Vaisnav received the Radha Thiagarajan Memorial Rolling Trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5000/-, Ram S Krishnan of BSNL finished 2nd with 7 points.
Category level tournament for U8, U11 and U14 was held along with. Jack Samuel of Dindigul scored 8/8 in the U8 Boys section and M Sanjana of Virudhunagar scored 6.0/8.0 in the girls section. Three players Sarveshwaran V of Coimbatore, Balaji Karthick of Karur and Rajkumar of Madurai tied for the 1st place with 7.0/8.0, Sarveshwaran won the title with a better tiebreak in the U11 Boys section and Jt Hasmitha of Karur scored 6.0/8.0 in the girls section. B V Manikanda Prabhu of Tirunelveli won the Under-14 Boys section with a score of 7.5pts out of 8 rounds and R keerthana of Sivagangai won the girls section with a score of 5.5 pts out of 8 rounds.
Prizes were distributed by Mr. V Vijayaraghavan, Joint Secretary, TNSCA. Other guests present on the dais were Mr. Hari Thiagarajan, Trustee, TCE , Padmashree Dr.Vasudevan, Deen, Mr. Sethuraman, Secretary, MDCA, Mr.Karthik, Assistant Physical Director, TCE and International Arbiter S Ganesh Babu, Secretary, GKCA.
