31st Rachel Paranjothy Memorial Chess Tournament for Women –Chennai (26 & 27 February,2016)
31st Rachel Paranjothy Memorial Chess Tournament for Women was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hall of Chess, Jawaharalal Nehru Stadium Chennai on 27 & 28 February,2016. Totally 131 women players from the age of 5 to 69 participated in this event. The total cash prize for this tournament was Rs.20000/- and the first prize was Rs.5000/-. The tournament was inaugurated by the first International master and Arjuna Awardee Manual Aaron.
Y.Saranya of MOB Vaishnava College for Women won the 31st Rachel Paranjothy Memorial Chess Tournament for Women. Both Y.Saranya and V.Rindhiya of Velammal Matriculation School scored 6.5 points out of possible 9 points and the former won the title with the better tie break. Women Grandmaster Aarthie Ramesh distributed the prizes to the winners. The total number of cash prizes 21 including a special prize for the best Veteran were distributed. Cups for the first three winners in the age group category Under-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14 were also given.
