22nd Adyar Times inaugurated
The traditional Adyar Times FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament organized by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association has turned 22 this year. Sponsored by Adyar Times the neighborhood newspaper this year’s edition has attracted 352 players including from three foreign federations. This eight round swiss event will be held from August 23 to 26, 2024 in the air conditioned University hall in Jeppiaar University, Chennai.
In a simple ceremony the doyen of Indian chess Shri. Manuel Aaron, India’s first International Master and Arjuna awardee made a formal move against Shri. V.M.Om Prakash, Dean, School of Physical Education & Sports Sciences, Jeppiaar University and flagged off the event. Mr. Aaron’s inspiring speech was enjoyed by the well-attended gathering. Others guests present in the dais were Shri. P.Stephen Balasamy, General Secretary, Shri. R.Srinivasan, Treasurer, TNSCA and Shri. S.Paul Arokia Raj, Chief Arbiter and coordinator of the tournament.
