Ashwath R of Chennai emerged as the champion with 6.5 points out of seven rounds of the 16th Adyar Times Open Chess Tournament which got concluded on Sunday at the Montfort Indoor Stadium, Santhome Higher Secondary School, Chennai. In a three way tie for the first place Ashwath relegated two others namely IM Ramnath Bhuvanesh and FM Vinoth Kumar M to the second and the third spot respectively. Ashwath produced an emphatic victory over Saravana Krishnan P in the seventh the final round to score a full point. The champion carried home a winner’s purse of Rs. 25,000/- and the glittering Adyar Times trophy. Shri. A.D.Ranjan, Editor and Publisher, Adyar Times awarded the trophy to the winner in the presence of Shri. Manuel Aaron, International Master, Shri. B.Murugavel, Vice President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and Shri. V.Hariharan, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association.
