Saravana Krishnan of KVB, Chennai won the 5th ACA State Level Open Chess Tournament organized by Anand Chess Academy. The two day state level open held on 5th and 6th September attracted around 185 entries from 21 districts, simultaneously state level tournament for category was held at the same venue with 635 school children eagerly participating.
In a 8 round swiss format Saravana Krishnan scored 7.5 points to win the first prize of Rs.10000/- in a total prize pool of Rs.35000/-.In the 6th round Saravana Krishnan and kunal jointly lead the tournament with 6 points. Saravana took the lead with 7 points by defeating Kunal of Trichy.In the 8th round he drew with IM Balasubramanian of ICF and won the tournament. Four players tied for the second spot, on tiebreak basis SS Manigandan of Madurai, M Kunal of Trichy, IM Ramanathan balasubramanian of ICF and S Aravind Kumar of Namakkal finished second, Third, Fourth & Fifth place respectively.
The prizes were distributed by the chief guest VelayuthaRavindran ,Governor,RotaryDt 2930. Dignitaries present on the stage where Dr K Sivasamy,Founder , Frontline Academy, Dr Sivagamy,Secretary Frontline Academy, Shanmugasundar, President,Rotary Club.
