International Master R.Bala Subramaniam of Integral Coach Factory, Chennai emerged as the 19th Adyar Times FIDE rated open champion when he targeted 7 points out of 8. In a six way tie for the first place the champion on account of his higher buchholz score stood first to lift Adyar Times trophy and a cash award of Rs.35,000/-. He has crowned the title earlier in the year 2002, 2005 and 2015. The runner up was CM Rajarishi Karthi and the third place went to B.Vignesh. This four day traditional rated event organized by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and sponsored by the Adyar Times the nighbourhood newspaper came to conclusion on Sunday at Bala Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Gandhi nagar, Adyar, Chennai. A record number of 438 players including participants from Botswana, France and United States were in the fray.
In a glittering closing ceremony Shri. J.P.Janakan, Managing Editor of the title sponsor the Adyar Times, felicitated the winners in the presence of Mr.D.V.Sundar, Hon. Vice President, FIDE, India’s first International Master Manuel Aaron, Dr.Srinivasa Raghavan, Prinicipal, Bala Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Mr.B.Murugavel, Vice President, TNSCA, Mr.P. Stephen Balasamy, General Secretary, TNSCA and IA S.Paul Arokia Raj, the coordinator of the tournament.
