M. Mahalakshmi of Chennai who won with a round to spare in the Girls Under-10 section. Another Chennai girl to win the gold medal is P. Uthra who took first place in the Girls Under-18 section. R. Preethi of Madurai finished with a bronze in this group in the Asian Youth Chess Championship.

N. Srinath won the Dubai Junior Chess Championship
Narayanan Srinath of Chennai has successfully defended the title Dubai Junior Chess Championship. He scored 8/9 to claim the title. Srinath has been winning the championship from the year 2004 except 2005. He won the under 10 in 2004, U-12 in 2006, Overall title in 2007 and 2008.

TN Sub Junior Champions 2008
P.Lokesh of SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai and Asian silver medalist J.Mohanapriya of Velammal Higher Secondary School became Champions. Lokesh scored 9 points out of 11 rounds with 57.5 progressive score. Mohanpriya scored 9.5 points out of 11 rounds with 60.5 progressive score.

Arun Prasad of our state crossed 2500 at the Philadelphia Open, USA. He scored 6.5 for clear second and win 1,000 US $. S. Arun Prasad of Salem who is employed with Bharat Petroleum, Chennai is India's eighteenth grand master and Tamil Nadu’s 6th grand master.

CUSAT Champion 2008.
R. Arun Karthik of Chennai won the 20th edition of CUSAT All India Open Chess FIDE Rated Chess Tournament in Cochin on 30th June 2008. He is a first year student of SRM College, he got the first prize of Rs.15000 plus a glittering trophy.

56th TN State Chess Championship 2008
B.T. Murali Krishnan of Southern Railways regained the Tamil Nadu State chess championship title, after a gap of one year, by beating C. Praveen Kumar of Chennai in the final round of the championship, organized by Vishy Anand Chess Academy at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai today. He and the top seeded G.B. Prakash of Indian bank, who beat R. Siddharth of Chennai tied for the top honours. Bur Prakash was pushed to the second spot due to inferior tie break. Former stat junior champion P. Maheswaran of Sivakasi, a II MCA student of SRM College, Chennai finished third.

State Chess Association - change of office bearers
The Incoming General Secretary Mr. K. Muralimohan was gave a bouquet to the outgoing general secretary, India's first Internationla Master and india's first Arjuna Awardee Mr. Manuel Aaron in the presence of Mr. J.C.D. Prabhakar, Vice President of Tamil Nadu state Chess Association. Mr P.R.Venketrama Raja was re-elected unopposed as president of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at the once in three years Election. The General Secretary Mr Manuel Aaron and the Treasurer Mr S.Ramaswamy however stepped down. The new General Secretary is Mr K.Muralimohan of Chennai and the new Treasurer is Mr K.Gopalakrishnan of Indian Bank.

Our Women FIDE Master Pon.N.Krithika of Kanchi Distict is the only player from Tamil Nadu to have qualified for the next 35th National Women ‘A’ Chess Championship to be held at Delhi form 1st to 11th September 2008.

TN State Under 25 Champions
The top seed P Shyam Nikhil of Madurai annexed the Annapragada trophy in the 10th Jawahar Vidyalaya Tamilnadu State Under 25 FIDE Rated Chess Championship, while the State Women Champion and the top seed in women's category R Preethi, also of Madurai clinched the Nivarthi Trophy in the 7th Jawahar Vidyalaya Tamilnadu State Under 25 Women FID E Rated Chess Championship.
