Mahalingam Trophy at Hotel Novotel & IBIS OMR, Sholinganallur, Chennai here today.
On top of the table with Harshavardhan were GMs Martinez Alcantara Jose Eduardo (Per), Bogdanovich Stanislav (Ukr), Visakh N R (Ind) and IMs Khusenkhojaev Muhammad (Tjk), Das Sayantan (Ind) at 4.0 points each. Top seeded GM Ponkrantov Pavel (Russia) stood half a point behind the leaders at 3.5 points in a pack of 20 players.
The top board game between Grandmasters Karthikeyan P and Ponkrantov Pavel (Russia) ended in a quiet draw. In the third board the talented Chennai lad Harshavardhan G B brought down experienced Georgian Grandmaster Mchedlishvili Mikheil in 43 moves. Further down Grandmasters Rios Cristhian Camilo (Columbia) and Pantsulaia Levan (Georgia) went down to Indians Srihari L R and Satkar Chirag.
