Anand v Topalov From April 23 For Rs.14 Crores

Chessdom.com website reports that the World Championship match between titleholder Viswanathan Anand and Veselin Topalov is to start from April 23 (game one) and end May 12 (is there are tie-breaks). The prize money on the table is Rs.14 Crores or 2 Milliion Euros for the match. The website reports that Silvio Danailov and Aruna Anand have made this agreement after meeting in Athens recently.

It will be a 12-game match and the winner is the first player to reach 6.5 points. In case of a 6-6 tie, there will be four rapid games to decide the deadlock. The opening ceremony will be on April 21 and the first game on April 23. There will be two games followed by a rest day and this patter will follow.

The FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said that Sofia is a good choice for WCC 2010, as Bulgaria has great traditions in chess and has produced champions as Topalov and Stefanova. Mr. Ilyumzhinov was also happy that the Topalov - Anand match and chess in Bulgaria receive strong governmental and social support.

A few minutes after the signing of the contract for the Topalov - Anand match, the Prime Minister Boiko Borisov said, "For the last 140 years there have been 19 such matches and all of them are of great importance in history. For us it is very important that Sofia was chosen for this event. If we compare the 8 million population of Bulgaria with the 1 billion population of India, it is an honor to be the center of the world's attention in April."
