A warm reception was given to the new World Under-16 Champion International Master S.P. Sethuraman, when he landed at Chennai Airport, this afternoon.
He won the Title at the World Youth Under-16 Chess Championship held at Turkey.
Murali Karthkeyan, who won the Silver Medal in the World U-10 category and J. Saranya the Bronze Medallist in the World Under-14 Girls Category accompanied by the official Coaches Grand Master R.B. Ramesh, International Master K. Murugan and Woman Grand Master Aarthie Ramasawamy were also received with garlands and bouquets.
Many Chess enthusiasts, players and parents were at the Airport to greet the medalists.
India won 6 medals at World youth Chess Championship held at Turkey out of which 3 were won by the Tamil Nadu players.
Arjuna Awardee and former Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association (TNSCA) International Master Manuel Aaron. India’s first International Arbiter V. Kameswaran, TNSCA’s General Secretary Mr. K. Muralimohan, TNSCA’s Joint Secretaries Mr. V. Ravichandran and Mr. S. Balaraman and Kanchi District Chess Association Secretary Mr. M. Muthukumar greeted the above Medal Winners.
As the above medal winners are from Velammal Group of Schools, scores of students and officials of Velammal Group of Schools cheered the above three medal winners on their arrival.
