Sri D.V. Sundar, Secretary, All India Chess Federation inaugurated the Second Modern School International Fide Rating Chess Championship for School students at Modern Senior Secondary School, Chennai 600 061 on 4th August 2009
This Rating Chess Championship is being organized by Modern Senior Secondary School, under the auspices of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation
The Total Prize Fund is Rs.1,00,000 and the winner will get the cash prize of Rs 25000 along with a Trophy. The top twelve gets the prizes in the main list and six special cash prizes for each category in Under14/12/10/8 will also be awarded.
Main sponsor for this event is Modern Senior Secondary School, Chennai and they are providing free Lodging and Boarding to all players, free hospitality to officials, arbiters etc and also sponsoring the entire prize money of Rs.1,00,000/-
This event attracted 250 participants from various States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Orissa, Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra and also from all over districts in Tamil Nadu.
Participation of 75 International rated players including top players like International Players Ajay Srikanth, G.Akash, P.Lokesh, Harihara Sudan etc., will make the event stronger and so colorful.
This event is 9 round Swiss format FIDE rating chess tournament. This is the 2nd time the School students Tournament is being organized as a FIDE Rated event in Tamil Nadu and many unrated players will get opportunity to get ratings and also rated players can increase their ratings from this event.
