IM P.Karthikeyan runner up in National Juniors
International Master P. Karthikeyan of Tamil Nadu got the second prize (Runner-up) in the National Junior Chess Championship that concluded at Sasi Institute of Technology and Engineering, Tadepalligudem in Andhra Pradesh. Karthikeyan and Adhiban took 8.5 points out of 11 rounds and spotted the second and third position respectively.

Reception for B. Adhiban
Tamil Nadu Satet Chess Association gave a grand reception given to World Under-16 champion B. Adhiban and the other three medal winners when they returned from Vung Tau, Vietnam to Chennai on October 31.

Adhiban became champion in World under 16 Chess Championship
our International Master B. Adhiban won the World U-16 chess championship Title in the World Youth Chess Championship held at Vietnam, He got the 9 points out of Eleven rounds to win the title, followed by our another International Master S.P.Sethuraman to finish the second spot for Silver medal. FIDE Master K. Priyadarshan in the sixth spot with 7.5 points.
In the under 18 Girls section, R. Preethi of Madurai finished second and got the Silver medal.

Anand regains World Champion Title
Viswanathan Anand retained his world title after drawing the eleventh game of the world chess championship against the Russian challenger Vladimir Kramnik in Bonn on Wednesday. The decisive game lasted 24 moves before Kramnik, requiring a victory to stay afloat, accepted a draw. Anand won by 6.5 points to 4.5.

16 TN players to play in World Youth, Vietnam
A large contingent of 16 player of Tamil Nadu will take part in the World Youth Chess Championship to be held at Vietnam from 19.10.2008 to 31.10.2008. In all 63 players from all over the country will be seen in action in the above championship.

B. Adhiban Clinches the National 'B' Title
Our Player International Master B. Adhiban of Chennai won the National "B" Chess Champion held at Goa. He got 11 points out of 13 rounds. In that he drew four games against Rawal Shailesh, Praveen Kumar C, GM Negi Parimarjan and GM Thipsay Praveen M.

Adhiban is coached by FIDE Trainer Mr. K. Visweswaran.

Shyam Nikhil outwits Parimarjan Negi on a day of the teen brigade
Young turks produced some exhilarating display of attacking chess on the leading boards and formed the pack of front-runners after the seventh round of the Monginis 46th National ‘B’ chess championship here on Friday.

The day clearly belonged to 16-year-old P. Shyam Nikhil. A day after miraculously escaping to victory against defending champion Prathamesh Mokal, the Chennai school boy pulled the carpet from under the feet of top seed Parimarjan Negi to take the lead and then maintained it for another round following a 59-move triumph over young IMDeep Sengupta............

A registered player of AICF was handed a ban of five years
In a sad incident, one parent, Senthil Kumar from Chennai slapped the chief arbiter during the National Under-11 Championship at Ahmedabad after a draw that his daugher claimed was not awarded by him. The parent, a registered player of AICF was handed a ban of five years and his daughter Kavya a ban for one year.

Srinath made his third and final IM norm. In the eight round he defeated Hungarian International Master Banusz Tamaswith a rating of 2481to score 5.5. out of 8 rounds in the 10th International Chess Festival at Trieste, Italy. With his victory in 8th round his rating also reached 2414.

Srija Seshadri Clinches the Title
Srija Seshadri Clinches the Title in the National under 11 Girls Chess Championship held at Ahmedabad.
She outplayed Megha Gupta of Gujarat to become champion. Megha played under tension and lost her way in the final round.
On board two top seed Sweety Patel of Gujarat was forced to a draw by West Bengal’s Shoumi Mukerjee and had to settle for second place.

Karthikeyan Wins International Masters Chess Tournament
International Master P. Karthikeyan of Chennai won the inaugural International Masters Chess Tournament with a 9/11 score at Colombo on September 3, 2008. Recently Indians finished 1-2-3. This week they improved on it by taking 1-2-3-4-5 and Indians are always improving on all overseas performances............

Young Champions Given A Boisterous Welcome
A fitting reception was given to the Indian Youth Chess Olympiad team who returned home to Chennai with the trophy and gold medals on August 26.
"The defeat to Turkey-A by 1.5-2.5 was a shocker, as we enjoyed good positions on all the four boards," said coach R.B. Ramesh. Scoring eight victories including some big wins in the end, India won the World Youth Chess Olympiad for the second time in a row. The high point was India's huge 3.5-0.5 win against the top seeds Russia in the second round.

India Are World Youth Olympiad Champions In Chess Again
Indian boys put up a splendid show at Mersin, Turkey when they won the World Youth Chess Olympiad for the second time in a row. They did it in the final round by inflicting a big 3.5-0.5 defeat on England. Leaders, Russia who won by only 2.5-1.5 over Azerbaijan finished on 28.5 points. India tied with them on the same 28.5 points and took the title on tie-break.

India, Armenia In Lead
India rediscovered its winning ways by crushing Georgia 3.5-0.5 in the seventh round of the World Youth Chess Olympiad on August 22.

Led by wins from Adhiban, Sethuraman at the top, Shyam Sundar drew and Prasanna Rao scored on the bottom board. India jumped to 19.5 points to join Armenia in the lead.

The Philippines did a great favour crushing leaders Russia 3-1 to open up the ten round tournament.

Defending champions India have easy opponents to take in the next three rounds.

This event is happening at Mersin, in Asiatic Turkey.

Standings after seven rounds: 1-2 India, Armenia 19.5/28 each, 3 Philippines 19, 4 Russia 18.5, 5 Azerbaijan 18...26 teams.

Sasikiran Wins Najdorf Memorial
Krishnan Sasikiran of ONGC, Chennai won the Najdorf Memorial Category 15 Tournament that concluded at Warsaw on August 10. Sasikiran remained undefeated after he drew Michal Krasenkow in the final round with the black pieces to reach 6.5/9 and win by a one point margin.

So what is 2820? Isn't Chennai-born Krishnan Sasikiran only listed with 2684 on the July 2008 rating list by FIDE? Yes he is. In his first five rounds, the ONGC player had scored three wins and two draws. He has done what a 2820 rated player need to achieve in his first five games......

Anand Wins Mainz Again
World champion Viswanathan Anand won the Mainz Chess Classic rapid chess tournament by winning the 4-player rapid tournament on August 3, 2008. This is his 8th consecutive win.

FIDE Master S.Nitin of Sharadha Bal Bhavan,Salem was given the top billing.The teenager who is the member of Gold winning Indian Youth Team in the Youth Olympiad in Singapore,2007 justified his seeding by having a dream run upto 8 rounds.With a clear one point lead he conceded a draw in the ninth and the penultimate round against K.V.Shantaram of Indian Bank to win the tournament with a round to spare.

Asian Youth Chess Championship
M. Mahalakshmi of Chennai who won with a round to spare in the Girls Under-10 section. Another Chennai girl to win the gold medal is P. Uthra who took first place in the Girls Under-18 section. R. Preethi of Madurai finished with a bronze in this group in the Asian Youth Chess Championship.

CUSAT Champion 2008.
R. Arun Karthik of Chennai won the 20th edition of CUSAT All India Open Chess FIDE
Rated Chess Tournament in Cochin on 30th June 2008. He is a first year student of SRM College, he got the first prize of Rs.15000 plus a glittering trophy.
