Top seed R A Pradeep Kumar of Postal with 7 ½ points won the 9th KCM FIDE rated open tournament here at Coimbatore. The event carried a prize fund of three lakhs distributed in 25 main prizes and Elo categories. Total number of participants were 382 mostly from Tamil Nadu. Ram S Krishnan of BSNL was the 2nd seed followed by Dusthageer Ibrahim of Golden Knights and Phoobalan of ICFon 3rd and 4th respectively.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Ramakrishnan, Secretary KCM along with other office bearers of Kovai Chess Mates. The eight round event containing 105 prizes was held at Krishna Gounder Kalyana Mandapam, Ganapathy from 29th September to 2nd October. 2016. Dusthageer beat Ram S Krishnan in the 6th round while Pradeep was cruising comfortably. Pradeep drew Sekar in the final round to clinch the title and Sekar settled for the 2nd spot with 7 points. Dusthageer took the 3rd spot with 6.5 points followed by his club mate Uma Maheswaran on 6.5 points. The Prizes were distributed by the members of Kovai Chess Mates on the final day.
