4th Kamaraj Memorial FIDE Rated BELOW 1500 Chess Tournament, Karur was held from 04 – 06 August 2017, organized by Kamaraj Memorial Chess Club at Prem Mahal, Karur. The inauguration function was held on 4th August 2017. The event started with the lighting of Kuthuvilakku by Karur Vasavi Mehila Mandali and other dignitaries present on the dais. Welcome address was delivered by Mr. Tajmeera S. Thufail, President, Kamaraj Memorial Chess Club. The presidential address was delivered by Sri. Atlas M. Nachimuthu, President of Karur District Chess Association. Chief Guest of the event was Mr. G.S. Ananthakumar, Chief General Manager, Karur Vysya Bank. The other dignitaries present on the stage were

The valedictory function was held on 6th August 2017. Welcome address was delivered by Mr. Tajmeera S. Thufail, President, Kamaraj Memorial Chess Club. Chief Guest of the event was Sri. M. R. Vijayabaskar, Tamilnadu Transport Minister. Other dignitaries present on the dais were Sri. Atlas M. Nachimuthu, President of Karur District Chess Association, Mr. V. Veerappan, Prem Tex, Dr. G. Subramanian, Mr. K.R.S. Nagarajan, Mr. V. Neduchezian, Mr. K.N. Anbalagan, Mr. P.R. Gopal, Ex MC, Mr. Jupiter M. Baskar, Ms. Bhuvana Sai, International Arbiter and Dr. Sathiesh G G, FIDE Arbiter and Chief Arbiter of this event. Vote of thanks was delivered by

302 players participated in the 4th Kamaraj Memorial FIDE Rated BELOW 1500 Chess Tournament, Karur. Out of 302 players, 189 were rated and rest participated to gain FIDE ELO rating. Total amount of
Rs. 2,00,000/- were distributed as prizes.

Title winner of this tournament was Gokula Kannan R.S. of Tamil Nadu He remained undefeated scoring 8.5 points out of 9 and received a cash award of Rs. 20,000/-. Suren S of Tamil Nadu who stood second in main prize list after scoring 8 points was awarded first prize of Rs. 15,000/- in the rating category of 1201-1400 because of the higher prize money criteria. Navyashree M K of Karnataka scored 6 points to bag the best unrated prize of Rs. 5000/-. Kavya. S of Tamil Nadu, the top seed of this tournament scored 6.5 points to bag the best women award. The best veteran prize was bagged by
Mr. Ramesh Kumar of the host city (Karur, Tamil Nadu) after scoring 6.5 points.
