Syed Anwar Shazuli clinched the Title
3rd Kamaraj Memorial Fide Rated Open Chess Tournament was organised by Kamraj Chess Academy at Prem Mahal, Karur. The event started on 3rd August with 103 entries which included 92 fide rated players. Syed Anwar Shazuli, ICF was the top seeded player. Seeded players sailed smoothly to the 2nd round. At the end of this round G. Gugan from Tamilnadu shocked the 3rd seeded Kerala Player M.A. Joy Lazar in 42 moves. Syed Anwar (ICF), P R Hirthickesh (TN) and O.T. Anilkumar (Kerala) entered into the 5th round with perfect score. After 6th round Hirthickesh took sole lead and maintained till the final round. Hirthickesh and Syed Anwar finished the last round with 7 points each, but better tie break helped Syed to clinch 3rd Kamaraj Memorial Fide Rated Open Chess Tournament title. Hirthickesh and O.T. Anilkumar were in 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.
Tamilnadu transport department minister Shri M.R. Vijayabhaskar distributed the prizes to the winners in the presence of Shri Atlas Nachimuthu, president, Karur District Chess Association. The tournament concluded in a grand manner.
