30th Tamil Nadu State U-9 Open & Girls Chess Championship -2017

The 30th Tamil Nadu State Under – 9 Open & Girls Chess Championship was held at Chettinad Public School, Karaikudi, Oraganized by Castle Chess Academy & Chettinad Public School on Behalf of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association from 8th May to 12th May 2017.

The Inauguration function was held on 8th May 2017, Mr. Ramesh, Principal, Chettinad Public School welcomed the gathering, Shri V. Hariharan, Gen. Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association & All India Chess Federation was the Chief Guest. He, Inaugurated the event with Top Seed of Girls Category Indira Priyadarshini.S of Sivagangai, in the Presence of Shri Kumaresan, Chairman, Chettinad Public School, Shrimathi Santhi Kumaresan, Shri Karuppaiah, Vice Presdient, TNSCA & Shri Muthukumar, Jt.Secretary, TNSCA, All the Office bearers of Sivagangai District & Castle Chess Academy were Present for The Function.

The event attracted 290 entries (Boys 177 + Girls 113) From 26 Districts of Tamil Nadu. In this 47 are International Rated Players, The Top Seed of Open Category is Illamparthi R of Kanchipuram and Top Seed of Girls Category is Indira Priyadharshini Of Sivagangai. First time in Tamil Nadu State Chess Championship Live stream arrangement was made by Chettinad Public School so that parents can view their Children playing.

In the Final Round the local boy Rohith S from Sivagangai beat Aswath S of Kanyakumari to win the Open Championship with 8/9 Points, the top seed Illamaparthi R of Kanchi got the second Place with 7.5/9 Points, up to 5th round Illamparthi was leading in the event but on 6th round Rohit beat Illaparthi, Rohan M of Tiruvallur got the third place with 7.5/9 Points; In Girls Category Kanishkaa C of Salem beat Sahanaa SM of Salem to Win the Championship with 7.5/9 points on better Tie Break Score, Even though Saineha of Trichy and Sruthinaya B of Coimbatore got 7.5/9 points, the better Tie Break decides the winner, Saineha got the 2nd Prize & Sruthinaya the third prize

International Master & Grand Master Nominee Mr. Shyam Nikhil was the Chief Guest of Prize Distribution Function and gave valuable tips to the players. Chettinad Public School Chairman Sri Kumaresan, Srimathi Santhi Kumaresan and IM Shyam Nikhil gave the Prizes to the Winners, in the presence of Mr.Ramesh, Principal, Chettinad Public School, Mr. P. Palaniappan, International Arbiter was the Chief Arbiter for this Event, Mr. Kannan, Secretary, Sivagangai Dist. Chess Association & Mr. Athulan, Castle Chess Academy & organising Secretary.
