B Savitha Shri of Kanchipuram won the Tamil Nadu State Under-9 Girls Championship, with one round to spare scoring full 9 points out of 9 rounds. She was unbeaten. Akshaya Rajaraman also from Kanchipram got the second place by beating Hemapriya M of Villupuram with a score of 7.5 points. S Roshan of Erode won the Tamil Nadu State Under-9 Boys Championship by scoring 8 points. He won the final round against S Aswath of Kanyakumari to win the title. Overnight leader Thrish Karthick of Chennai lost his penultimate round to S Roshan, further he won the final round against Bathirinarayanan of Chennai and secured second place.
The Tournament was inaugurated on 11th May by Sri. Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman, VCET; in the presence of Mr.Rev. Dr.Arul Arasu Israel, President, Madurai Dist. Chess Association, Mr.B.T.Sethuraman, Secretary, MDCA, Mr.PON.KUMAR, Physical Director,VCET.
This championship received a total of 237 (140 Boys + 97 Girls) players, Thrish Karthick of Chennai & Savitha Shri of Kanchipuram were the top seeds.
Prize Distribution function was held on 15th May, Dr.Vasuki, HOD,ECE, VCET; & Mr.Rev. Dr. Arul Arasu Israel, President, Madurai Dist. Chess Association, were the guests and they gave away the prizes to the prize winners in the presence of Mr.B.T.Sethuraman, Secretary, MDCA, Mr.PON.KUMAR, Physical Director,VCET & Mr. P.Palaniappan IA, Chief Arbiter of this event. The total cash prize was Rs.20,000/- only.
