1st State Level Open & Children Chess Tournament was conducted by Golden King Chess Club on 20.08.2016 and 21.08.2016 at Pethal Achi Girls Hr. Sec. School, Thiyagigal Road ICICI Bank, Devakottai – 630302.
Mr. Rtn. A. Ramanathan, Secretary, Nagarathar Schools, Devakottai was the Chief Guest of the tournament inauguration. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Ravi, Secretary, Golden King Chess Club, Devakottai. The other guests present on the Dias were Mr. M. The tournament was conducted in Swiss system with a time control of 30 minutes for each player. The event attracted 476 players in total. 67 players contested in the Open category for total cash prizes worth Rs. 20,000/-. Uma Maheswaran P of Golden Knights Chess Academy, Madurai seeded third, remained undefeated to clinch the first prize of
Rs. 4000/- scoring 6.5 points out of 7 rounds.
98 players participated in the Under 9 category and 8 rounds were conducted. Harsha Yoganathan of Trichy remained undefeated scoring 7.5 points out of 8 rounds to receive first prize.
Under 13 category witnessed the maximum entries of 289 among the total tournament entries of 476 and Kabiskan M of Sivagangai finished at first place scoring 8.5 points without defeat out of the possible 9 rounds.
62 players participated in the Under 15 category and Manoj Guru R of Sivagangai provided his worth as top seed scoring the full 7 points from as much rounds as possible.
